These photos of EA-3Bs of VQ-1 were taken during a trip from Atsugi, Japan to Cubi Point, Philippines in early 1971.

a3no1.jpg (86379 bytes) "Uh, are you sure this runway is long enough?"

It sure looks short but it always worked! This starboard catapult view was taken aboard an A-3D of VAH-4 from the BNs point of view during a cruise on USS Oriskany (CVA-34) in the early 60s.

a3no5.jpg (279327 bytes) "This looks about as short too!"

Same perspective as above but coming in on final for a perfect 'OK 3 wire' I'm sure.

The EKA-3B Whale replaced this work horse for the VAW-13 'Zappers' at NAS Alameda during the summer of 67. Many Dets to the Tonkin Gulf began that fall for VAW-13 and their combination tanker/ECM Whales. They later became VAQ-130 and then each det became VAQ-129,130,131,132,134, & 135.

nasala~1.jpg (156401 bytes) "Alameda"

Nas Alameda and the carrier piers as they once appeared. Now closed down for operations, the USS Hornet (CV-12) Museum is permanently on display at Pier #3. NAS Alameda was home to the Whales of VAW-13, VAQ-130 and sister squadrons as well as NARF Alameda.

146454_F16.jpg (329556 bytes) "A-3 and Friend"

I know, it's an F-16! But it was taken from an A-3 Skywarrior as you can tell and it was taken just this summer in June 2000. This photo was taken from aboard NA-3B 146454 of Raytheon's Flight Test Operations fleet by James D. Sieff. They were playing around somewhere over the Mojave.

307byIsland.jpg (37716 bytes) "307"

More affectionately known as 'Lucille', BuNo 135442 of VAH-3 taxies up past the island on board USS FDR (CVA-42). Circa 57. This was probably during VAH-3s early CarQual period.

EA-3B_65_Molick.jpg (339955 bytes) "Flyswatters over Rota"

1965-VQ-2's EA-3Bs #2 & #5 make a low level pass over the field at Rota. The special 'flyswatter' attenna is seen on the tail of #5. The sub tender USS Holland is docked at the pier in the backgroud. She took care of all the local boomers.

"From the Archives"

Top Photo...an Olongapo, PI. bar scene, 1967. You fill in the names! It could be anybody from any boat or any squadron. These guys are VQ sailors enjoying a San Miguel. Probably warm!

Bottom Photo...Danang flightline, 1967. PC Jack Peterson, VQ-1, is hauling in the drag chute.

This view of the aft bomb bay area of an EKA-3B or KA-3B shows the hose reel assembly. Visible are the fuel shut off valve (upper right), hose reel, all 60 or 70 ft. of it (center), and the collapable parachute drogue fairing on the bottom.

Skywarrior75Flight.jpg (171660 bytes) "PMTC"

BuNo 144825, now with RFTO (Raytheon Flight Test Operations) is seen here in 1975 while on duty with Point Mugu Test Center. It had all the extras, oversize nose radome, wing pylons, extended tail radome and who knows what on the inside.
